Colloquium: “On Anomalous Scattering of Slow Neutrons”

OU1935-B6 (5 pages) Date: September 26, 1935

In the colloquium, Yukawa explained the then-current understanding of the mechanism of emission of large quantities of radiation by neutrons when they became slow moving neutrons after passing through a substance and losing their energy. He discussed phenomena such as the resonance scattering caused by the potential of neutrons formed around the atomic nuclei. He concluded the lecture by saying, “There are still many issues to address.”
