Envelope: β Disintegration

OU1935-A7 (2 pages) Date: Envelope postmarked July 26, 1935

This enveloped contained the manuscript of a research paper on the beta decay that Yukawa wrote in 1935. Just like the envelope shown in OU1935-A6, Yukawa wrote “β Disintegration” with a brush and ink. The characters “β” and “D” in “β Disintegration” are partially faded and look exquisitely beautiful.

Yukawa used to commute to the School of Science, Osaka Imperial University from his home in Kurakuen, Nishinomiya. This envelope was sent by Yukawa’s colleague, Eizaburo Honde, and it was addressed to Yukawa’s residence as “Mr. Yukawa, Kurakuen bus stop, Nishinomiya, Muko-gun, Hyogo” is written on it.
